Katie and Haresh present at the Physics of Life conference
On 27th – 30th March Katie and Haresh joined hundreds of other biophysicists at the Physics of Life conference in Harrogate.
Final year PhD student Katie presented a polished talk summarising her PhD work and this was what she had to say about the conference:
“The conference was very interesting. From day one the sessions were packed with interesting applications of physics to the life sciences. The topics were very varied. There were talks on building cell division machinery from basic protein units, what we could learn from archaic forms of life, using nanopores to trap molecules, how DNA packs into the cell nucleus and how replication can happen in such a dense organised environment amongst other things. By day 4 everyone had had their fill of the science on offer, but my talk was still well attended (around 150 people) and people engaged well with it. I answered 4 or 5 questions from the audience before time ran out with plenty of people chatting to me about the content in the coffee break afterwards.”
For Haresh, this was his first conference as a PhD student, and he presented a poster that drew lots of interest. Here's Haresh's summary of his experience:
“The Physics of Life 2023 meeting in Harrogate was a fantastic first conference experience for me where I got to present my work to the scientific community. I learnt a lot about biophysics research in the UK and developed my network with other researchers in the field.”
